GNUmed NSIS installer template opened

Hi,

en_US

HILBROS, the developer of the template for the NSIS installer donated the code to the GNUmed community as of today. This is essential as it enables anyone to turn a CVS snapshot into a working MS Windows installer package. The client template has been added to the CVS with the server part to follow soon.

de_DE

en_US
We are proud to announce the availability of GNUmed 0.2.6.1 for GNU/Linux, MS Windows and MacOS X.

The hooks framework has been extended. The bootstrapper transfers users and runs sanity checks for plausibility after upgrade. Encounter handling now allows a user to start a new encounter on demand. Simple data mining has been added. GNUmed now runs on Mac OS X and supports OsiriX DICOM viewer. Patient picture handling has been properly implemented. Debugging has been
improved for better user feedback. The backend features an improved backup script and a new
restore script, and now requires PG 8.1. A bug in the phrasewheel has been fixed.

Details can be found here: http://wiki.gnumed.de/bin/view/Gnumed/GnumedTodo#AnchorDone

GNUmed crossbootstrapping

en_US

While working on the Mac I thought now that the client works for me what about

the server and postgresql ?

I always tell everyone we are so cross platform. And you bet we are.

I grabbed the postgresql installer from http://www.postgresqlformac.com/ and

installed it. It actually gives you a nice set of graphical client tools to

start/stop the server.

Because I didn't know where the installer put the files and the bootstrapper

for the mac was not yet quite ready I used cross bootstrapping.

Linux came to my rescue. I simply changed the destination IP address for the

Mac in the bootstrap conf files and started bootstrap-latest.sh

It complained that the mac doesn't let me connect so I had to change the

pg_hba.conf in /Library/PostgreSQL8/data/ to accept incoming connections from

my trusty linux.

Automagically a database v6 was created on the Mac and I was actually able to

use that one.

Now beat that. We are now officially cross platform in every sense of the

word. Cross bootstrapping rocks.

If you take that idea one step further this means we can actually *remote

update*. No need for the user to pull the update files. We can simply update

*their* database from *our* computers.

Now that gives remote control a new perspective in terms of support.

de_DE

GNUmed on YouTube

The quality sucks bad so I have put up a much better backup version here

GNUmed jabber client in the works

-en_US
We are working on data exchange with different software vendors and try to avoid costly and questionably secure solutions. In short we are looking into using trusted and proven open source solutions such as SSL, XMPP (jabber) , GPG and more to make data exchange happen. Since we are implementing open standards and generic interfaces (GNUmed framework) this solution should be easy to implement by open and closed source vendors.

This solution must pass and even surpass security evaluations by Germany's TÜV since there is another vendor who supposedly has passed the test. By the way the exact specification is only available under a non disclosure agreement. From what we have seen it does not ask for a password or passphrase and there certainly is no way of knowing who you send the data to. Traffic seems to run over the company's server and little is known if the information is stored on the server or not.

We can do better. We use ejabberd. This is an open source jabber (xmpp) server. Communication happens exclusively over SSL. We have to decide if we will allow storage and forwarding messages for offline users. Traffic can be encrypted by OpenPGP but this has not yet been implemented. Code has been checked into the GNUmed repository.

Karsten is working on the export framework. Ideally the transporting code is content agnostic. We will most likely implement export of xDT format (German exchange format), raw sql. Maybe someone with HL7 experience chips in. We will be able to transport anything from lab data to patient information and patient documents.

GNUmed will store this information in the inbox. We will then implement a handler part that knows how to import the different data formats into GNUmed or another EMR.

One issue related to datae exchange in general is the question of how to tell the true identity of the receiver. We will be able to solve this by using GPG and encrypting the messages. Authentification will most likely happen against a trusted third party in cases when you don't know the receiver personally (key signing).

-de_DE

PostgreSQL Live CD

Just found that site about PostgreSQL on a live CD

http://blogs.ittoolbox.com/unix/bsd/archives/postgresql-livecd-14866

Wouldn't it be nice to just add gnumed-client to it and have a fully working GNUmed installation available on a live CD.I suppose it is even possible to use a USB drive instead of a CD.

What seems to make it easier for us is the fact that pgadmin3 is included. That means wxpython is on that CD by default. And since it is based on Xubuntu it should be as easy as 'apt-get install gnumed-client'

Linuxforclinics.org

I just found out about a team (www.linuxforclinics.org) that develops a software program for laboratory work. There goals are defined here They have an active community with a nicely populated forum. Late did I find out that they have a GNUmed forum as well. Despite the fact that there is lots of information available in our wiki.gnumed.de they had trouble installing the server part of GNUmed. Once we provided some more infomation they were able to successfully bootstrap.

Hope they can use parts of GNUmed for their needs.

Linux-Tage Chemnitz

GNUmed zieht an.

GNUmed speedup

en_GB

A small announcement with big impact. Karsten added database connection pooling to GNUmed. Not knowing what to expect I tried our online database again at salaam.homeunix.com. Connection is fast. Almost like a lokal database. While there have been noticeable delay when connecting to the online database they are now gone. Nice work.

de_DE

Gute Arbeit.

GNUmed goes Alluro

en_EN

GNUmed goes Alluro. Well not quite. Alluro goes GNUmed. That's right. HILBROS ( www.hilbros.de ) is a business I started that aims at making GNUmed available to collegues in Germany. While Open Source is nice it is no selling bonus. So until that happens GNUmed will have to compete with other vendors in a traditional setting. To protect GNUmed from business issues I will provide it to customers under the name Alluro. Alluro is a name for the platform that will serve as a foundation for a product line.

First products available will be AlluroMed and AlluroPhysio. The Alluro product line is available with full support, updates, documentation and training. GNUmed compatibility is one of the goals but Alluro will adhere to official regulations that might not mix well with FOSS.

de_DE

GNUmed webbased client

en_GB

Thanks to some source code I have been sent by Syan I have been able to test
what we have always proclaimed. It is possible to use our business objects
such as gmLog, gmPG2 and so on from a web interface.

Although I cannot comment on how well it works or if it is an ugly hack or not
I can tell it is possible to use a webinterface and a number of rich clients
at the same time.

Since a web client is yet another client to design and maintain I wonder if it
makes any sense to borrow html from other webbased open source emr
applications.

Can anyone comment on where webframeworks such as django or turbogears touch
this subject ?

Setting up the whole thing has been amazingly easy after guessing my way
around.

Just copy the html and gnumed.py into a webspace such
as /srv/www/htdocs/webgnumed

install and activate mod_python

edit httpd.conf to make use of mod_python for the webgnumed directory

symlink gnumed/gnumed/client to webgnumed/handler/GNUmed

run the login.html and be surprised. Nice work Syan.

A use case recently brought up by a collegue is no longer out of scope for GNUmed now. Chronic pain patient rings you up for a refill prescription but you are not at the office. Just use your mobile to bring up GNUmed's webinterface and fill a prescription form. Patient will then go to the office staff and pick it up.

de_DE

GNUmed - AVISION AV220C2

en_GB

I got my hands on a new AVISION AV220C2 which is a duplex sheetfed scanner. It's fast and is perfectly supported under MS Windows, GNU/Linux and MacOSX. It supports 9 user configurable scan profiles (image resolution, color, file format, target application) via its scan button.

This actually was motivation to fix the gmScanBackend on Windows which now supports any TWAIN device. I have tested it with a cheap webcam and the new scanner. Nice stuff.

Price tag is around 700 Euro which is not cheap but if you really want go get rid of those old paper documents it's worth your money I guess.

We hope to do some interesting things for GNUmed with it. Watch out for release 0.2.4 for initial support and hopefully 0.2.5 for more advanced stuff.

I would like you to test gmScanBackend with any TWAIN devices you have flying around. Easiest way is to grab version 0.2.4 of the client once it is released, connect to the internet database salaam.homeunix.com, open patient kirk, switch to document import and press the scan button.
